#24 – Arch Deluxe (McDonald’s)
McDonald’s had one of the biggest flops in dining history back in 1996 when they introduced the Arch Deluxe. Using a quarter pound of beef on a sesame seed bun, McDonald’s also added pretty standard toppings and condiments in what was supposed to be a bit more of a “sophisticated” burger for adults. They even said that it was “the burger with the grown-up taste.”
McDonald’s dumped an estimated $300 million to do research for and market the Arch Deluxe, but nobody was buying them. Instead, people were sticking with the classic Big Mac, causing McDonald’s to lose millions. Luckily for them, they would rebound just fine.
